## What happens to the file

With WeTransfer, the file is uploaded to WeTransfer's servers first. The other person gets a link, downloads the file from those servers, and the copy stays there until the transfer expires. Everything the file contains passes through a company you have not vetted and sits on its disks in the meantime.

With Privatta there is no upload step. The recipient's copy of Privatta asks yours for the file, and it travels directly between the two machines. When the transfer finishes there is nothing left anywhere to delete, and no link that someone could forward.
