# Newsrooms, law firms and labs.

Documents from a source, privileged files to opposing counsel, and research datasets between institutions.

Journalism & source protection

## Handing off leaked documents without a copy on anyone's server.

The challenge.A confidential source needs to pass a document to a journalist. Any cloud upload creates a server log, an IP record, a third-party intermediary — exactly the metadata trail that can expose a source.

With Privatta. The connection is established machine to machine over an encrypted WebRTC channel — no relay server ever sees the file, and no cloud storage logs the upload. The source and journalist agree on a one-time connection key and a separate security code in advance, out of band; it works exactly once, expires in five minutes, and is combined with a username and password before any document is listed.

- The file goes device to device — the relay and STUN servers see only the two connection addresses
- Key and security code travel by different routes — intercepting one is not enough
- No file ever touches a server Royal SoftWorks or anyone else operates

Legal & eDiscovery

## Privileged documents to opposing counsel without creating a cloud copy.

The challenge.Producing discovery materials typically means uploading them to a document-review platform, creating a new custodian relationship and potential waiver surface with every file handed over.

With Privatta.Pro and Enterprise tiers let a firm create a named user for opposing counsel and a virtual folder for the matter, then hand over a one-time connection key — with the matching security code passed by phone — for that specific handoff. The files transfer directly over an encrypted WebRTC channel, and the key and code stop working once that session is over — without involving a platform vendor.

- Per-engagement virtual folders with a one-time key and code per handoff
- Neither the key nor the code can be replayed once the session is over
- No file ever copies to a review platform or third-party server

Academic & research

## Sharing large research datasets between institutions without cloud quotas.

The challenge.Genomics, climate, and imaging datasets regularly run to hundreds of gigabytes. Cloud upload quotas, per-GB costs, and IRB data-residency constraints make third-party services impractical for inter-institutional data exchange.

With Privatta.Privatta transfers at full link speed — LAN or internet — with no size cap imposed by a cloud tier. The receiving institution gets a one-time connection key and security code for the handoff, so the dataset lands only on the machine they were shared with, without touching any external infrastructure — satisfying data-residency requirements outright.

- No file size limits — transfer any dataset at full link speed
- A one-time key plus an out-of-band code ensures data arrives only on the intended machine
- No cloud infrastructure means no IRB data-residency conflict
