# Pull the plug and keep working.

One switch closes every connection beyond your local network and logs the hosts reached each day; an offline installer suits air-gapped sites.

[Editions](https://royalsoftworks.com/products/assistant-general/editions/): Pro, Enterprise and Government can switch it; on a managed desk the administrator sets it.

## Offline mode, feature by feature

Each comes with a small drawing of how it works. They are diagrams, not screenshots; numbers in them are examples.

- ### One switch

Offline mode closes every connection that leaves your local network.

Diagram: Connection, then “Local network?”: yes, Allowed; no, Closed.
- ### Or an allow-list

Keep the local network, plus only the outside hosts you list.

Diagram: Connection, then “Local or listed?”: yes, Allowed; no, Blocked.
- ### Refused before the name leaves

A blocked address is refused before it is even looked up, so not even the name goes out.

Diagram: Blocked host → Refused → No name lookup.
- ### What counts as local

This computer, private network addresses and local names, plus the company server, your own model server and cluster machines this install was pointed at.

- ### A record of every host

Each day's outside connections are counted per host, blocked ones too, and the status line shows the totals.

Diagram: Example day: connections counted per host, blocked ones too.
- ### An offline installer

An installer variant carries the engine and models on disk and never reaches for the network on its own.

Diagram: Offline installer leads to The app, The engine, The models.
- ### The engine from a file

Where downloads are blocked, the engine can be installed from a file you bring in.

Diagram: Engine file → Install → Runs offline.
- ### What still goes out, and only if used

Activating a paid licence (once), the first model download on the online installer, and any cloud model, connector or research source you choose to use.

- ### Set by IT, not loosened at the desk

An organisation's network rule cannot be loosened on the desk. Programs the assistant starts, such as a shell command, are governed by the tool rules instead.

Diagram: Desk setting, then “Looser than IT's?”: yes, Refused; no, Applied.
