# Search the databases you already have.

Add knowledge stores you already run beside the built-in one: Chroma and Qdrant servers, LanceDB folders and SQLite files, tested, weighted and searched.

[Editions](https://royalsoftworks.com/products/assistant-general/editions/): Pro, Enterprise and Government.

## Extra databases, feature by feature

Each comes with a small drawing of how it works. They are diagrams, not screenshots; numbers in them are examples.

- ### Chroma

A Chroma server by address and collection name, with an optional key and extra headers.

Diagram: Address + collection → Key + headers → Chroma.
- ### Qdrant

A Qdrant server by address and collection name, with an optional key and extra headers.

Diagram: Question → Qdrant collection → Passages.
- ### LanceDB folders

Any local folder in the same layout as the app's own store, such as a collection exported from another install.

Diagram: Exported collection → Folder on this PC → Searched.
- ### SQLite document files

A local .db file of documents, searched by keyword.

Diagram: Keywords → .db file → Matches.
- ### Tested before you rely on it

One click reports whether the store answered, how many entries it holds and the size of its vectors.

Diagram: Example test result: the store answered, holds 12,480 entries, vectors 768 wide.
- ### The wrong model never gives wrong answers

A store built with a different search model is skipped, and you are told once, because comparing the two would return nonsense.

Diagram: Store, then “Same vector size?”: yes, Searched; no, Skipped, told.
- ### Its own relevance bar

Outside stores get a minimum score of their own, separate from your main knowledge base.

Diagram: Example: a minimum relevance of 0.60 for your own documents and 0.45 for outside stores.
- ### Ranked with your own documents

Their results are evened out, weighted, and re-ranked by the same ranking model as everything else.

Diagram: Even out scores → × weight → Re-rank all.
- ### Back by itself after an outage

A store that fails is tried again at most once a minute, not on every question.

Timeline (Retried at most once a minute): Fails, +1 min, +2 min, Back.
- ### In the backups too

Scheduled backups and exports can include collections and extra stores.

Diagram: Main and Collections and Extra stores come together as Backup.
- ### An allow-list for IT

On a managed desk only the stores the administrator allows are searched; the rest quietly drop out.

Diagram: Store, then “On IT's list?”: yes, Searched; no, Dropped.
