# Decide which sources count most.

Give every knowledge base a weight from 0 to 1: switch a source off, rank it below your own files or level with them, with a separate bar for outside stores.

## Database priority, feature by feature

Each comes with a small drawing of how it works. They are diagrams, not screenshots; numbers in them are examples.

- ### A weight on every source

Each extra database and each collection carries a weight from 0 to 1. At 1 it stands level with your own documents; lower, it ranks below them.

Diagram: Example weights: your files 1.0, a Qdrant store 0.6, a Chroma store 0.3, a SQLite file 0 (switched off).
- ### Off without deleting

A weight of 0 keeps a source configured but out of every search, ready to switch back on.

Scale from 0 · off to 1 · equal, set at “Kept, not searched”.
- ### Fair before weighted

Each source's scores are evened out first, so a store that reports bigger numbers does not win by default. Then the weight applies, and the same ranking model re-reads the result.

  Diagram: Scores → Even out → × weight → Re-rank.
- ### A separate bar for outside stores

Set one minimum relevance for your main knowledge base and another for collections and extra databases.

Diagram: Example: one minimum relevance for your knowledge base, a lower one for outside stores.
- ### Fresher first, when it matters

Recency can add its own gentle weight by date, with a half-life you choose.

  Timeline (The boost halves each half-life): Today, 1 half-life, 2 half-lives, Older.
- ### Kept out of chat

A collection can stay out of everyday chat search entirely, for material you only want on request.

Diagram: A collection kept out of everyday chat search, still searched on request.
- ### The administrator's list comes first

A source an administrator has not allowed is never searched, whatever its weight.

Diagram: IT's list → Then the weights → Results.
- ### Changes apply at once

New weights and relevance bars take effect on the next question, without a restart.

Diagram: New weight → Next question → Uses it.
