## Desktop AI apps: private, capable, and on their own

LM Studio, Msty Studio, AnythingLLM, Jan, LobeHub, Cherry Studio and the Ollama app run models on your own computer, and they are no longer just chat windows: LM Studio, Msty and AnythingLLM have agents and MCP tools, AnythingLLM has agent flows and local voice, and LobeHub schedules agents. Most are free or close to it, they install more easily than AssistantGeneral does today, and for one person they are genuinely good.

The gap is everything an office needs around the model. In Msty, LM Studio and Ollama the team controls live in the vendor’s own cloud. AnythingLLM’s desktop app is single-user; roles and sign-in mean running its Docker or Enterprise edition. Cherry Studio’s Enterprise edition comes closest to us by putting an admin backend on your own servers. None of them carries the procedures of a profession.

- Strong single-user apps, mostly free, with agents and MCP
- Team policy lives in the vendor’s cloud, or needs a separate server
- No profession workspaces, jurisdiction packs or deadline arithmetic that bypasses the model
